The number of tourists visiting Taiwan has witnessed rapid growth in recent years. In 2011, a total of 6.087 million tourists visited Taiwan, and the number is estimated to hit 10 million in 2016. The industry has been spurred by tourists from the Chinese mainland, who made over 1.8 million visits to the region in the January-November in 2012, up 60.6 percent year-on-year. The figure accounted for 35 percent of inbound trips in the same period.
