The Chinese mainland has become a major destination of Taiwan investment, with nine percent of total overseas investment in the mainland coming from the island. And mainland investors have pumped $722 million to Taiwan by September 2012 since the island opened to mainland investments on June 30, 2009. Two cross-Strait agreements on investment protection and promotion have been signed, promising to provide equal, if not preferential, treatment for investors from both sides.
