A variety of economic forums between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan are held every year. Notably is the Cross-Straits Economic, Trade and Culture Forum, a regular forum between the Communist Party of China and Taiwan's Kuomintang Party, which has been held annually since 2006 in order to promote cross-Straits economic, trade, cultural exchanges. Cross-Straits economies are complementary in that mainland has a vast market that Taiwan needs, and Taiwan can help mainland companies to move up the value chain.
