BYD Co Ltd is a Chinese manufacturer of rechargeable batteries and automobiles, based in Shenzhen, South China’s Guangdong province. Founded in February 1995 and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on July 31 2002, BYD began as a rechargeable-battery factory competing in the Chinese market against Japanese imports.BYD grew quickly, capturing more than half the world's mobile-phone battery market within ten years and becoming the largest Chinese manufacturer of all types of rechargeable batteries.BYD has expanded beyond batteries, adding automobiles and mobile phone components.
