A record 5.3 million vehicles were recalled across China in 2013, up 65.5% from 2012.




2013 Major Vehicle Recalls in China



Shanghai General Motors

1.46 million Shanghai GM cars


The affected cars includes 1,218,163 Buick Excelle cars and 243,297 Chevrolet Sail compact cars.


The Buicks to be recalled are the Excelles produced between Jan 17, 2006, and Dec 2, 2011.


The recalled Chevy Sails were manufactured between April 9, 2009, and Oct 8, 2011.


The recall started from Dec 30, 2013.


VW recalls DSG cars twice


Volkswagen recalls 640,309 DSG equipted cars in China from November 2013 as synthetic oil in the gearbox may cause electrical malfunctions in the gearbox power supply.


The car company will replace synthetic oil with mineral oil in the 7-speed Direct-Shift Gearboxes (DQ200).


The German car maker started a recall of 384,181 vehicles with a gearbox problem in China from April 2013. 

Dongfeng Honda

400,000 Dongfeng Honda CR-V


The 50-50 joint venture between China's Dongfeng Motor Corporation and Japan's Honda Motor Company will recall over 400,000 CR-V sport utility vehicles (SUVs) because of piston rod defects.


The vehicles, produced between March 2, 2010 and August 30, 2012, have a possible crack in the piston rods on the front fender which may cause a safety issue

Chang'an Ford

80,857 Chang'an Ford Escape


The  Sino-US joint venture planned to start recall its Ford Escape in Chinese market, named Kuga, owing to the substandard wheel knuckles


The affected SUV were manufactured during the period from Sept 21, 2012 to Nov 13, 2013.
