Mt. Gox was a Bitcoin exchange based in Tokyo. Mt. Gox was, for a time, the largest-volume Bitcoin exchange. In February 2014, the exchange shut down and declared bankruptcy, admitting that 850,000 bitcoins, worth $473 million, were lost or stolen from the exchange's accounts, which the company blamed on a hacking attack.
